Portimao is a beautiful old town dating back to
before the invasion of the Moors. It is situated at the mouth of the River
Arade and has a fascinating history of smugglers and pirates. Once the capital of the Algarve, Portimao is now known for its fishing industry with sardines being the local seafood speciality. This beautiful townhouse, over 200 years old, is situated right in the heart of the old town and therefore is an integral part of the unique history of Portimao. This property comprises living room, kitchen/diner, conservatory, 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a courtyard garden. The living room is very spacious and has a unique set of cupboards built into the wall. These are an original feature which has been loving restored by the present owner. This room leads from the hall with the main bathroom directly opposite. This bathroom, like the rest of the property, is spacious. There are two basins and two mirrors each with a light above. The bath is a corner jacuzzi bath. Leading from the main room is the large kitchen/diner, with wonderful open plan wood staircase and balcony stretching the length of the room. The kitchen is a fully equipped Italian style affair with a gas hob and electric oven. There are fitted cupboards on the floor and walls, providing plenty of work surfaces and ample storage space. A breakfast bar forms the end of the kitchen area and provides a great place to sit with a cup of coffee while the chef creates! Two sets of double patio doors lead into a really lovely conservatory and then on into the courtyard garden. The conversatory has blue and yellow stained glass windows and beautifully intricate full size double sliding gates which when locked mean that the doors and windows of the kitchen/diner can be left open without fear of intruders. This conservatory is a great place to sit in the cool of the evening or simply to avoid the heat of the midday sun. The courtyard is attractive and easy to maintain. There is a mature loquat tree near the barbeque and wash area. This courtyard is not overlooked by any other property and the laws in Portugal are such that there should never be any overlooking windows, so complete privacy is ensured! The master and second bedrooms are on the main level of the house. Like the rest of the house, these are spacious rooms each with a large walk-in wardrobe. In addition to this, the master bedroom also has a small room leading from it which the current owner is using as an office. The upstairs of this property is just one large room. It is currently furnished with two double beds but could easily become a games room or bed-sitter for a teenager. An expansive wardrobe with a lovely intricate design on the doors, takes up a large part of one wall. The house is double glazed throughout and the owner has found it a great place in both summer and winter - the double glazing and the depth of the walls ensuring that the place gets neither too hot nor too cold. There are also sturdy shutters inside every window. To add the final touch to heat and cool, there are air conditioning cum heating units in the lounge and large upstairs bedroom, electric radiators are also in the bedroms. The current owner is leaving all the curtains and carpets. There is a telephone connected to the house with broadband internet. Cabo television is also in situ, which can also provide a constant broadband internet access. This townhouse has an area of 154 sqm and a courtyard of 88sqm. It is well situated in the old town, close to a number really great restaurants and shops. The harbour, marina and beaches are also close to hand which makes this a great place to live and also to rent out in the summer. |
