Apartments Meio & Canto

Edificio Hora Solar is a brand new block of 9 apartments on the outskirts of Carvoeiro. Two of the apartments on the top floor - the middle and right hand corner.

Apartments Meio and Canto have been set up in very similar ways - the furniture is the same except that the sofas are different colours and the pictures, curtains and other fittings are also individual.

The owners are intent upon making their apartments comfortable and homely. The kitchens, particularly, are extremely well kitted out as both ladies love cooking! They have full gas cooker, washing machine, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, iron, ironing board and loads of pots and pans.

Both apartments have 3 bedrooms. The two twin bedrooms have a good sized full bathroom between them but of course the master bedroom (with a double bed) has a full ensuite bathroom - which is large enough to sleep another person!!!

The lounge, as you can see has a very comfortable corner suite, extending dining table and 6 chairs. There is a television, dvd player and a radio/CD.

Balconies - there is a good sized balcony leading from the lounge and one the width of the apartment facing the swimming pool and garden of the condominium.

Patio table and chairs plus sun loungers can be put on either balcony. The loungers of course can be taken down to the pool. The pool itself is 30 feet x 15 feet and the depth goes to nearly 6 feet.

The condominium is a "closed condominium" which means that no one can just walk in and use the pool or sit in the garden. There are locked gates - so no worries about your children, they are safe.

There is undergound and above ground parking available for every apartment. There is also a "people" entrance gate with camera and intercom. Inside the apartments is the video screen and entry phone - check that it is your children coming in (or your parents!) and just click the gate open.

A few yards up the road is a good restaurant/cafe/bar - I've eaten there myself a number of times and always found the food excellent. Opposite this is a small mini-market.

This mini-market is great to allow the children to run and get ice creams or something that you've forgotten on your main shop, but just a few minutes' walk away is a very good supermarket, Intermarche. If I'm close enough to Carvoeiro I prefer to do my own shopping here. There is a cafe in Intermarche, plus a laundry if you don't want to bother with the washing machine in the apartment but want to take home clean clothes, plus a baker - wow are some of the breads, cakes and sweets here good!!! There is also a hairdresser and a papershop.

Opposite the apartments are a couple of "play" grounds. A football cum basketball court for the older ones and a childrens' playground with equipment for the younger children.

Apartments Meio and Canto are in a residential area, but not a noisy one. You'll have realised that there is no sea view, instead from the front there is a varied view of the playground, the residential homes and some older more traditional cottages. The view across the back is a more country view - open land and an old ruin. So you're definitely not overlooked!

The main town beach is 2/3 minutes' drive from the apartments - it's a good walk straight down the road for those who prefer to walk. This is the main road into Carvoeiro so it's not advisable to let children walk to town on their own.

To get to the main beach you walk through Carvoeiro itself. A lovely small town with plenty of restaurants, bars, cafes, a variety of nightlife plus of course the usual array of tourist shops. There is a good pharmacy near the beach if you need their assistance - and they speak excellent English!

Within about a 5-minute drive of the apartments you'll reach a choice of beautiful sandy beaches.

Although people staying here have gone without their own transport we do recommend car hire - which, of course, we can help with!

Carvoeiro itself is neatly situated in the centre of the Algarve and from here it is therefore easy to reach places like Albufeira, Loule, Alte, Silves, Monchique, Portimao, Lagos, Sagres, Cape St Vincent, to name just some of the worth-visiting places.

Amongst the hills are the towns of Loulé, Alte, Messines and Silves, all of which are full of history and local charm. Just driving around the hills offers ample opportunity to explore and appreciate the beauty of the countryside and the gentle pace of life existing away from the hustle and bustle of the coast and the tourist resorts.

Along the coast are the more popular tourist attractions - including Krazy World - which boasts a great swimming pool with a couple of shallow pools for very small children, extremely krazy golf, a zoo, pony rides, a children's funfair and those really great trampolines where you bounce sky high but are safely harnessed.

There are also a number of water parks, popular ones include Aqualand (formerly The Big One) at Porches, and Slide n' Splash at Lagoa/Carvoeiro.

Zoomarine is over towards Albufeira and is another superb day out - and it's here that you can swim with the dolphins!
